If you weren’t paying attention over the Christmas/Winter break, it’s very possible that you haven’t heard about our new project. You can find it on the SQL Developer version 4.1 Early Adopter download page..
If you’re not into reading so much, we have 7 or 8 blogs on the subject out there, you can just watch the movie.
In ten minutes I cover:
- what is this thing?
- what can it do that SQL*Plus can’t?
- some new commands
- editing queries in the buffer
- editing queries from the history
- where to go if you want to learn more
I’m running a slightly newer build than what’s available on OTN at the moment, but expect another update soon.

Hey the down load is now 12M! AHHH!! 🙂 Looks great Jeff, tell the guys I really like it.
Seems like I can get the connection but when I type commands nothing seems to happen. Any idea’s? Also where is the forum or support for this tool?
same community/forum as SQL Developer
Hi Jeff,
thank you for the update on this.
My colleagues are hardcore SQL*Plus fans and found a problem with this windows shell approach: “germanic umlaut” characters are only possible through a third party editor, that’s disappointing because it consumes time to jump from one program to another and right back to the SDSQL.
Do you have any idea to solve this? Are we missing something?
Regards,
Ralf
It’s a known issue with one of the libraries we’re using. We’re going to try to code around that to get it working.
Nice work! These are much needed improvements to the standard SQL*Plus tool. Any idea when these features will be integrated with the standard SQL*Plus?
